This file format was created by Adobe Systems and it is adaptation od PFB format. Whole name is Portable Font ASCII. As it is written above, this format was created from format PFB, which is also file type allowing creation of fonts for electronic devices. Its name is Portable Font Binary. Its main use is in PostScript, where it is described as Type 1. Due to this inclusion we can see that it is supported on Windows XP and Mac OS. Format PFA is mainly used on system Linux, because it is especially created for that.

To create files in this file format you can use one simple application and it is so called FontForge. It can both edit and create fonts. This application can also edit some other graphical vector formats like SVG or bitmap formats, where belongs BDF.
